Just thought I'd point something out:
The Free RPG Day offering for Dragon Age is available for free (35-page PDF) on DriveThruRPG.
The Free RPG Day offering for Dungeon Crawl Classics is available for $4.99 (16-page PDF) on RPG Now.
Hmm. Funny how some things are no longer free now that Free RPG Day is over. You get much more RPG goodness from the Dragon Age offering, including over twice the page count, for zero dollars. 'Nuff said, as far as I'm concerned. I have to say that I continue to be underwhelmed by the hype machine that is DCC. The system may be innovative and playable and have a great old school pedigree and flavor, but there's just something about how Goodman Games is going about "selling" the game that just rubs me the wrong way. I'd be interested in hearing other people's thoughts on this...
Dragon Age looks interesting. I'm gonna read the quick-start. Might even buy the game.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't see how Mr. Goodman thought charging people for the pdf of a free print product was in any way a good idea. WTF?
Exactly, James. WTF indeed.
ReplyDeleteI think you may be comparing apples to oranges just a bit. The beta rules that are effectively the other half of the DCC giveaway are still free and significantly more substantial than 35 pages.
ReplyDeleteHarn does the same thing. If I remember correctly it was free one day and then later on they were charging like $12 or $14 for it.
ReplyDeleteAs far as DCC is concerned, it does have some interesting things in it, but overall its the same game with a few twists. From what I've seen, and had the chance to playtest it a few months ago, if I do decide to buy it it will only be out of curiosity.
